Snoke’s Praetorian Guards In The Last Jedi

Mild spoilers ahead…

According to MakingStarWars, Snoke will have six to eight of his own personal guards who will wield their own individual weapons like nun chucks or double-bladed melee weapons. They are called the Elite Praetorian Guards and are designed like the Emperor’s Royal Guards we have seen in Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith.

They all have individual helmets and fabric to their dress; however they all have a similar chest piece, making them similar, yet different. The one in the sketch has a halberd type weapon with an electric field around the blade. This guard doesn’t have a visor, his face is just all red. The line is to emphasize that his helmet is domed.

Some early concept art from The Force Awakens with Kylo Ren’s helmet gives a little more light into this subject.

Although not used, this helmet resembles the Praetorian Guards, except for the color. Especially with the Knights of Ren, we know there are a lot of medieval designs in The Force Awakens, so it looks like this design was reused for The Last Jedi. Apparently, we will also see other guards that resemble the Emperor’s Royal Guards from the older films.

MakingStarWars also speculates that we might see these guards in action at some point and they even reference the long-rumored fight on Ahch-To with Luke and Rey as having them fight these guards in an awesome fight scene. I’m not completely sold on that concept. We may or may not see these guards in action, but I don’t think they are the ones fighting on Ahch-To. I still think they will be the rest of the Knights of Ren which may or may not connect with the rain portion of Rey’s vision from The Force Awakens.

Of course, everything is speculation until confirmed by Lucasfilm, but we’re more apt to see smaller things like these in upcoming trailers or TV spots.

Do you think we’ll learn more about Kylo ren’s origin, and maybe even meet the knights of Ren in the Last Jedi? I’m certain hope so.
